caution : moral police ahead!

after the unfortunate event that rocked mangalore city, today Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said, “We don't want to promote the liquor culture and decisions we take will be to see that the culture of boys and girls going hand-in-hand to pubs and malls for drinking is stopped.” its disgusting to hear such versions of a boy - girl relationship and I wonder why our ministers are trying too hard to picture the harmony between the sexes as an unfortunate and ugly one.

The following poem [if it could be called so] portrays my anger, frustration and disappointment by these turn of events. The perspective is that of a girl [maybe my sister, my friend, my future wife or a total stranger] talking to the government or the ministers.

i was told i live in a free nation
a nation which boasts of cultural integrity
a nation which boasts of women empowerment
a nation which worships Goddess Durga
a nation lead by a woman President.

you promised me education
you said I would excel in my life
you promised me equality
you said you are proud of my presence!

your words implanted hope in me
your words gave me strength
I stood up against the flow
faced the blow of the wind
believed in you words
took the pain and effort.

I advanced from kitchen to living room
I rose from bedroom to board room
the burn my kitchen gifted me
hurt as I shook hand on a corporate deal
I smiled, I enjoyed the pain
I was proud, I lived to your dreams!

today as I look around
I see men staring at me
with lust, with jealousy
with an urge to finish me.

i look at you, you turn me down.
your words were kind but your eyes turned red!

they teased me in front of you,
trashed me, abused me
they called me a prostitute
and you chose to watch the show!

the small world I saw as I grew
my dad, my friends, my husband, my son
men who stood by me
men who led me to success
you took that world away from me!
you blinded me, scarred my dignity
whom shall I blame if I hate men today?
the one who love me or you - who deceived me?

you made politic poli-tricks
you made my country a laughing stock
tell me, who is a danger to our culture
is it Me or is it You?

Sawan saar:) beautiful !!
u thought just as we women would n do every now n then...this menace puts us down- sort of brings down everything we have ever achieved in life.
thanks for the support n voice:)
we need more men like u n power...in politics!

Anil Sawan said...

vinnie darlin, i cud understand wen girls generalize MEN and think against MEN when such unfortunate events happen. I just wanted to tell you that there are a lot of MEN who condemn such acts.

Luscious Sealed Lips said...

Absolutely amazing, Sawan.

The Manglore incident got me so furious that I wanted to beat the people around. I wanted to bombard the people 'watching'. How could you let something go on, like this, in front of your eyes?

It really makes me sad and think over and over again, HOW LONG is it going to take to get rid of these biases?

I AM SICK!

Kisses.

such double standard and hypocrite people we have around. they themselves dont know how to behave with a girl., they themselves have not learnt to gv respect to women and comes forward with such heinous barbaric steps in the name of preserving our culture.

the poem is emotional yet powerful. thanks for ur support. :)

Yes..the mangalore incident was really shocking.. I dont know how politicians can do that.. And beat up girls.. Thats pathetic.. Why are they targetting the youth of india.. Why? Isnt it wrong when politicians have extramarital affairs and when they marry thrice.. Its only wrong when the youth celebrate valentine day.. Its wrong when they express their feelings for the first time in life on v day.. Atleast they dont commit infedility.. Politicians just want to gain attension. . So they just do anything.. We will surely not be shocked this v day.. I guess terrorism is not an important issue now.. How the girls wear their costumes.. Who they talk to.. If they go to pubs or not.. Is only the main issue of concern for india today..

Anil Sawan said...

LSL, these biases would remain until these a******* remain on earth and until atleast some youth learn lesson from them. the only way to feel nice is to make the better generation talk as much as the worser one.

Anil Sawan said...

Preetzi, any day. the older generation politics have to end for these kind of stupid acts to subside. They cant open their mouth at their home and so they start thinking of "cleaning the nation"!!

Anil Sawan said...

yamini, glad u liked it.

Anil Sawan said...

Kajal, we walk together and m sure no one could harm eitr of us.

Anil Sawan said...

Riya, politics was never easy to understand. Earlier men were the ones who took family decisions and these politicians had less work in attracting them to their parties. Now women have come forward hand in hand with men and they are part of every decision men take. why not consider this step as a weak attempt for the famous divide and rule policy. attack women and they would start pointing fingers on MEN in comon which would naturally enrage Men and there they go :) Politicians, I say are way too smart.

Keshi said...

Im sick of all the loser-politics of some politicians lol!

Anil Sawan said...

keshi, weve got the same feel about it :) cheers...

Dr Riya said...

Yes.. I completely agree with you.. And i am glad you came ur with a post like this.. If we do not raise our voice.. There can be more absurd things coming up.. By only talking and sharing our views we can make india a better place..

Sawan, this subject stabs at my heart. It is such a dichotomy isn't it? It makes no sense. My heart bleeds for women in India. Your poem is powerful and great and I love that you took on a woman's perspective. Bravo.

Catvibe, glad you liked it. I dont think its a lone incident in India, its spread through out the world. i would sy its much less in India compared to some other countries. I cant blame when girls react by using harsh words against Men. But they should also acknowledge the fact that there are Men around who consider the women as equal and respect them for what they are.

way to go!

i have little hopes for this country to change and i have become quite a nihilist when this topic comes up. When female infanticide and child marriages still prevail in some parts here, I'm not surprised.

Most people have got it drilled into their heads: Indian Women Must Not Have Fun.

Many women themselves are self-opressive.
